Lists

It is no Secret that I love a good plan.
I think making a list is actually one of the most therapeutic things for me to do.

Really lately I realize that my happiness strongly correlates with how productive I am.
I have tried to change my mind set.
And be happy not getting anything done.

I can't.
So instead I am finding ways to get more done.

This includes not washing my hair more than twice a week.
(It is not the washing that takes so much time, but the drying)

and making more lists.

Mother's Day is Sunday, and this will likely be my last post until then.
It is hard to put into words how much I love those two pictured above.
Really they are why I do anything I do.

Having small children dependent on me is what really drove me to begin my own family's emergency preparedness journey.
Planning and preparing things for our children is what we mothers do everyday in small and big ways.

Whether it is a schedule of the days events, a healthy meal, a fun activity, check-ups at the pediatrician's or structured time for teaching.

Planning is what makes us good mothers.
It is a process of intention and dedication.

My blog has been largely about emergency preparedness and the planning I do for the unexpected, the planning I do so we are living a provident life.
As I grow in my experience as a mother I realize that a mother's job is largely this thorough thought we spent on our family's well being.
And though we can't really plan everything for our family, and we surely can't expect everything to go as plan.
We can show our love, nurture our families, safe guard our homes, teach our children, and prepare for the unexpected.
All it takes is this planning, this process of intention and dedication.

Shelves

A few weeks ago I went searching for some more shelving to hold storage items. Truth be told I have been looking for a new shelf for months. We have our three month supply on some shelves I purchased at Walmart in the laundry room. I haven't been super pleased with the unit. It was extremely difficult to assemble, and falls apart when moved. We have a storage closet in the basement, that I intended to line with shelves to hold our more extensive food supply. But the perfect shelf meant it had to be sturdy, easy to put together, able to be purchased at a store within 1 hours drive or ordered online with free shipping, and most of all it had to be affordable. In the end my research was not as extensive as I intended it to be. But when I found this shelf at IKEA for between $29.99 and $39.99 depending on the width, I went for. Good choice I would say. It took all of 15 minutes to assemble and appears extremely sturdy. The only thing I don't love about it is that it only has four shelves- where five would be more preferable. Compared to what I have been able to find online- like this- this Ikea shelf was an incredible deal. I just love being organized.
