Mother's Day Gift Ideas- Flowers with a Twist

Let me start this post by saying I strongly dislike Mother's Day.
There are so many reasons.

For starters lets just say my mum doesn't have the longest track record of trust and respect with me.

Secondly, before I became and mother, and wanted to be with all my heart, this was the most painful- rub salt in my wounds- day that existed. Though I have children now, I still remember this pain, and feel sad for those around me who I know are experiencing the pain this day brings.

Number three. My husband takes me literally when I say he doesn't have to get me anything.

Last of all. It is a Sunday, one of the more stressful days for me. Having to ready children for church, keep them happy, quiet, attend to callings at church and meetings, make it a work day for me.

Plus even though I am a mom I still have mothers, mother-in-laws, grandmother etc. that need to be seen and presented with a thoughtful gift from me on this day. You too huh?

All I really want for this day is a nap, a back rub, not to have to cook anything, good listening children, some flowers, and maybe another nap.

Too bad you can't order that off Amazon.

Here are a variety of thoughtful and useful gifts that might make this day better for a mother's day hater like myself.
3 Twists on Traditional Flowers for Mother's Day.

1. Seeded Paper Flowers.
Recyclable paper you adhere seeds to you can plant, and they eventually will grow real flowers. Pretty cute.
Pretty clever.
Just plain pretty.
A great project to involve the kids in.
Click on over to HOW DOES SHE? to see the full tutorial.

2. A Lovely Gardening Book about how to grow her own flowers.
The New York Times 1000 Gardening Questions and Answers: Based on the New York Times Column
I can just see this packaged up in a wire basket with some green ribbon and fresh cut pink tulips or maybe just some bulbs.
3. Edible Cookie Flowers
Adorable Aubrey at the Mother Huddle shows us this easy gift that looks like you spent a lot of time and thought into something super special. I think this is what I am actually going to do for all the mother's and grandmothers on our list.
Thanks Aubrey for the awesome idea.
Good luck and Happy Mother's Day.

Delicious Deal

Guess what my hubby found at Wal-mart on Black Friday? You guessed it (well it was quite obvious with the picture I put up and all). The Honeywell .62 cubit feet fire safe is on their website here for $58 and $88 on Amazon.. But in stores right now it is only $38. $38!!! They have a smaller version for only $25 as well. If you don't have a firesafe because- well they are normally a little pricey- now is the time to no longer have an excuse. I can't wait to open it and organize all my important papers- which should be easy since a 3 ring binder fits inside and that is how I keep everything- thanks to my document prep project. It was suppose to be a suprise but I came upon it at the store with him and was about to put it in the cart and purchase it myself when he told he me he had already got it for me as a Christmas gift just minutes before. Boy does he know me well. I am sad to ruin the surprise though, I always seem to manage that somehow.
It is even what I recommended for parents in my Christmas gift post the other day. I have another idea for my parents though this year. I have been working on it this week, and yes it involves emergency preparedness so you will be privy to the details, but not today.
Shopping is not the real reason I haven't been posting lately. We hosted the in-law family for Thanksgiving, which was beautiful, and fabulous, and delicious, and mostly completely from scratch, and therefore a lot of work and a little stress. But we loved not traveling.
Hope your Thanksgiving was safe and delicious too.

Christmas Gift Ideas

Is it already to early to start posting about what to get everyone for Christmas? I am already thinking about it of course, so what is the harm in posting. I think there really is no better gift than a needed item for a food storage pantry or emergency supply. Really you could theme all your gifts this year around preparedness. See.
Hostess or Neighbor Gift
A candle is a pretty typical hostess/ neighbor gift. What about this emergency candle? Get 12 complete with wrapping for $45.00 or about $3.75 a gift here.
I would prefer this to a plate of way to much sugar any day.

Friend Gift
This Emergency Food Storage text would be a treat for any friend... or every friend at under $11 a piece. That is a hint friends :)

Boss/ Co-Worker Gift
This beautiful stainless steel canteen. A gift for the boss or co-workers. It is classy, useful around the office, and not too personal, especially if you don't get them personalized. Get a bunch of different colors so everyone's is different.

Sibling Gift

My sister is moving into a new house with tons of closets and storage. If I had drawn her name for Christmas this year maybe she would be getting some food rotation shelves filled with her families favorites. They are even on sale right now for $34.99 at Shelf Reliance

Parents
My parents are the most ridiculous people to shop for. They already have waaaaaay to much stuff. And they just buy themselves whatever they want, and the calendars/ mouse pads/ mugs/ frames/ etc. plastered with their grandchildren's faces are getting a little old. Here is something I think they could actually use. A large fire and water file chest found on amazon for $58. Maybe with a note that says I will help them get their documents in order. They are very unorganized. I have spent hours more than once during a family emergency scouring their home for contact info or insurance numbers. So secrettlly this might be a present to them to benifit me.

Looks like my shopping is done. Ha Ha, actually I have one gift, and it wasn't even purchased with emergency preparedness in mind. I think my two year old still prefers dream doll houses to dehydrated apple slices.... but I could be wrong.
Coming soon. My Christmas wish list. :)
